As a child, Mark was fascinated by collecting coloured stones and fossils.
As an artist, he developed an interest in how he could turn coloured earths and stones could be turned into paint.
On his journey to make beautiful coloured paints, he has unearthed many fascinating stories that span over 40,000 years of human history.
The colours in the Northern Fells Pigment Collection; are personally foraged for by the artist.
Back at the studio, the pigments have been extracted from a range of rocks and earths found across the North of England and the Scottish Borders using a historical process called levigation.
